Astronaut

But...he's an ASTRONAUT!

Current Music: Mr. Goon Bones - Crazy Bone Rag
Edgar Mitchell is an astronaut who, along with Alan Shepard had the longest moon walk ever during the Apollo 14 mission. So that’s pretty impressive. He also recently told a radio interviewer that UFO's are real, Roswell happened, and that we are often visited by aliens. The government has covered the whole thing up. In other words, The X-Files is a documentary. Hmmmn...

EDIT: A link to the interview

Nonsense. The government would never cover up anything.

I want to believe, but not Mitchell. Apparently he was doing ESP experiments during the Apollo 14 mission, believes he was cured of cancer (never verified) remotely by a psychic, etc.

So what you are saying is that the NASA screening process is not that rigorous. Some of the ESP experiments (I didn't know about these ones) were, as I understand it, legit as far as the cold war goes- basically the Soviets were doing them so the 'intelligence community' funded them for our side too, just in case. After all, we couldn't have a pseudo-science gap!
Oh well. It was interesting for a little while.

Actually, I don't believe Mitchell's Apollo ESP experiments were legit -- they've been described as "private." And I think whole astronaut love triangle episode last year shows that NASA screening isn't perfect.

Yeah, that's what they WANT you to believe!!!

I was going to mention the whole love triangle-pepper spray-rope-diaper thing. Although that was a pretty elaborate piece of planning. I think that the diaper showed initiative and thinking outside the box.

HA!

I had even forgotten about that.

I work in a government bureaucracy. It is very difficult for me to believe that any large mix of bureaucrats would keep any kind of secret. Five? Maybe. Fifty. No way.

That said, the Navajo Code Talkers kept their work a secret for many decades. Or at least the story is that they all kept silent. Maybe it was widely know in the Navajo community and nobody outside showed any interest.
