Headbanging is prayer? Saddam said yes!

Current Music: Big Chief - O Woman (Mack's Lament)
I am watching a documentary called Heavy Metal in Baghdad. The film follows an Iraqi heavy metal band, Acrassicauda (which is the name of a particularly nasty species of scorpion), from their beginnings at the end of the Saddam Hussein regime, through the war and occupation. According to Acrassicauda, Saddam left them alone as long as they wrote some songs that praised his leadership, which they did. Interestingly enough, the basic head-banging back and forth sway of heavy metal music was frowned upon by officials, as it was felt to derive from the Jewish practice of swaying while davening! Its really hard for me to get the image of head-banging rabbis out of my mind.

They exist!! I knew one... (well, he was a rabbinical student at the time, but he made it in the end).
