Helen Thomas to Playboy: Jews 'own the White House' - On Media - POLITICO.com

This just keeps getting worse. I used to admire her.

I wonder if she's getting senile. She is in her nineties, isn't she? I mean this stuff is barely coherent.

I guess it could be that, but... does that mean that she didn't used to think that or that she just had the sense to not say it out loud?

I'm sure her thoughts were probably along those lines but maybe not quite so crazy.

Helen Thomas and Palestine

One problem is that people like Helen Thomas just think of people like the editors of Commentary and David Horowitz and Charles Krauthammer and "settlers" stealing land in the West Bank or Netanyahu as being what it means to be Jewish. It's a typical lazy generalization that takes a diverse group of people and stereotypes them as being like a few representative cases that one happens to dislike. When I think of Jews I think of my many personal friends and mentors who are/were Jewish, the editors of Haaretz, Moses Mendelsohn, Maimonides, Yitzhak Rabin, Yariv Oppenheimer, etc. so I'm probably likely to think anyone who fears Jews or dislikes them is crazy. I just worry about people in positions of power in the media or politics who still think of diverse groups as monolithic communities. What sort of experience of life do these people have that they can think of groups in that way?
