I went and saw Serenity last night. I thought I would like it, but it turns out to be really good. The story was good, and they managed to explain the backstory without it being onerous. The humor was well-integrated into the dialogue, as was the trademark western-style speechifyin'. There was even some fine directing, with a really nice shot near the beginning in which they introduced the whole crew in one single steadicam shot, moving through the ship.
It really was the best sci-fi movie I have seen in quite a while, and the best Western too. If you have any kind of interest in that sort of thing, I say get yourself to see it.

Here is the web site- Serenity

Basically, rebels on the run, robbing banks but also trying to subvert the government. And occasionally grappling with Chrisitan beliefs.

Well, it basically is a guy who rescues a couple in distress, and they people who want that couple hunt him down. In the meantime, we figure out why the people in distress were in distress (they knew a secret) and by the end of the movie...

well, I won't tell you because you're gonna want to see it.

But I will say that swearing in Chinese is a VERY nice touch.

Speaking as a fan of the series I liked the movie as a movie but I didn't get out of it what I wanted as a fan of the series.

Interesting! I watched the series, or at least a good many of them, but frankly it wasn't on long enough for me to really be a super-fan. What did you want from it? More closure? I thought they did a good job of tying it in to the series, but not making it an episode of the series.

More closer, yes. Mal was also a jerk in the beginning and in general he does what he has to do he isn't a jerk just for the heck of it. So I was like "WTF??". I also liked it when the story was more about the individual crew members than intergalaxy politics. And killing Wash was evil.

I agree with what you are saying, but I guess a lot of that is driven by the need to have a self-contained 2 hour movie.

See, but as a fan I beleive that Joss Whedon cannot be constraned by time and space only evil corporations.

"...killing Wash was evil."

HEY! If you're gonna throw spoilers out...

But for what it's worth, I agree 100%. That was evil. Sure, the other guy...I can live without him...but killing her husband was just plain evil.

Yes, and Wash is sooo...loveable. Killing loveable characters is very evil.
we are your sweet mistakes

Nah, go and see it now 'cause I want it to do well. If you have seen any of the series, you will totally get what is going on.

I also saw it last night. It was awesome! I'm very glad that character development in sci-fi movies is back.:)
