Current Mood: workingworking
Just to change the topic up a bit here, I present, through Metafilter, a link to the original 1969 video of David Bowie's Space Oddity. This is the original version of the song, complete with whistles and flutes and such, and lo-budget costumes and effects, not to mention dental work. Worth a look. Let me know what you think.

Yeah, the whole thing looks like it cost about $20, but that is part of the charm.

It was very endearing. I didn't quite get what was the meaning of the two um hot chicks... is the song about leaving ones duties for drugs and women?

Yeah, I was puzzled by that as well. I sort of thought that maybe it was just part and parcel of the whole "rock star" thing of the time, some attempt to balance the ambiguous sexuality of Bowie and the entire glam-rock scene that he was starting. Or maybe they were guys. Or maybe they financed the whole thing and then demanded to be in it. It is probably more fun to make up reasons for it than it would be to hear the real reason.
