Just a little test of your classical education!
The venerable Yiddish paper Forward had a really interesting op-ed piece by noted military historian and scholar Martin van Creveld, concerning the war in Iraq, which you can read here. Basically, van Creveld feels that the US is going to have withdraw from Iraq, and that it is going to be a total mess, but that more we postpone it, the worse off we will be. He concludes that our leaders were criminally negligent in getting us into this, and ends the article with this incredible comparison and recommendation:

"For Misleading the American people, and launching the most foolish war since Emperor Augustus in 9 B.C. sent his legions into Germany and lost them, Bush deserves to be impeached, and once he has been removed from office, put on trial along with the rest of the president's men...."

In case you think that the comparison of the Sunni triangle to the Teutoberger forest is the work of some ignorant liberal media flack, this article from the Guardian explains more about his qualifications to make such a statement, including the fact that van Creveld, a professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, is the only non-American author whose books are required reading for U.S. military officer trainees.

As a nest of peaceniks? I could believe it if someone said it was suspected to be full of academics who have probably been waiting 30 or 40 years for someone to do something so stupid that they could make that comparison, just to show off...
