Last night we went to a celebration for Yom HaAtzmaut, which is Israel's Independence day. My favorite thing there was a wall of posters that some young kids from the Hebrew school had made; the theme was "my wish for Israel's birthday is..." and then the rest of the sheet was blank, and each kid completed it in their own way. Most of them were wishes for peace, with some being a little more poignant and specific, saying things like "I wish no more bombs would hurt people" and things like that. One struck me, because this kid wished that in the coming year "everyone in Israel would get a hovercar!" That's thinking outside the box, kid!
Anyway, they had face painting. Most kids got some variation on the Israeli flag done on their faces, but Meret, ever the fashion plate, wanted this amazing butterfly design, which the face painter executed with serious style and panache:

So I thought I would share.

Very cute.

I got my hair cut yesterday. I figure if we can break Omer on Lag B'Omer we can certainly do so on Yom Ha'atzmaut.

Should be that way. I might have if I had thought of it, but I will remain shaggy for another little while.
