Too crazy even for Fox!

It used to be that an interview with Charles Manson was the gold standard for crazy, and always proved a reliable provider of soundbites, an easy way to manufacture a little outrage. I think Geraldo interviewed him about 6 times.
Manson has been replaced by Fred Phelps, and the members of his weirdo family/church. Putting these people on provides them with a platform, as well as giving the news programs a reliable villain, and angrying up the blood of the viewers about something that everyone can agree on. If I were a Christian I would be kind of upset that these guys get more press, or at least face time on cable news than leaders of say, the Episcopal Church, but hey.
Sometimes, though, the producers seem to not clue in the anchors to the fact that their guest is just a freak on parade, or else they overstimate the ability of the interviewer to hold it together; case in point this Fox interview with some Phelps woman. It will make you shake your head.
