Stefanie and I have arrived in Brooklyn, a quick visit to show me off to relatives and such. It is nice, but I have yet to see a single urchin in a newsboy cap and knee pants playing mumble-de-peg, nor have I been invited to join in a game of stickball.

Shit! This city is the worst place I ever tried to park a car.

Obviously you are hitting gay bars in the wrong part of town. You used to have to go to the Village for that sort of thing.

You said you were looking for an "...urchin in a newsboy cap and knee pants". That is the sort of thing one looks for in a certain strata of gay bar. Guys in leather chaps, sailor suits, etc. In the late 1970s, I went into one such bar in New Orleans with a friend dressed as a Viking and with a sailor from the HMS Hermes. There were a lot of people in costume (it being Mardi Gras) but I got the impression that costumes were a year round thing in that bar. Also, have you read Confederacy of Dunces -- written a decade earlier but placed in New Orleans.

I will have to ask some friends if there is anywhere in DC where attendees might wear interesting costumes. Maybe that whole scene is passe'.

...easy to see where YOUR mind is!
I was thinking more in the Little Rascals/Our Gang mold.
