What about Mel?

It seems that Mel Gibson is intent on giving a bad name to crazy-looking beards. He has admitted to his racist anti-Jewish rant during his DUI arrest. I don’t think he has actually confirmed the statements, but the police seem to.
I guess I can take some solace in being right about how anti-Jewish his Passion movie was.

What now? Does alcoholism and/or just being really drunk make you say things you don’t in any way believe, or does it just loosen your tongue to the point that you say things you wouldn’t ordinarily say in public? I guess if he was having some kind of psychotic or paranoid episode I could believe that he doesn’t really think that, but...
I dunno.

It’s depressing, is what it is.

So do we forgive? Boycott? Have the elders of Zion cancel his credit cards?

I have heard about booze making ugly people look pretty good, especially around closing time, but I didn't know it to make us Jews look ugly. Probably Gibson is in denial over all sorts of problems in his head. (Or maybe he simply figures that most people will accept his apology because most really don't care about antisemitism. Or both.

Wouldn't it be great if Bush explained the war in Iraq "Well, we were all drinking kind of hard...."

I felt it (the movie) was anti-Jewish as well, but I didn't know how to go about saying it in a way that my Christian friends would understand. Because, "OMGWTFBBG!!!!!!one!11! The movie was about JESUS!" Yeah, not as much as it was about "those damn Jews who killed him!" Disgusted me. The Jews are no more to blame for Jesus' death than spoons are to blame for making Michael Moore fat.

I've boycotted Tom Cruise because of his wacky religious beliefs, why shouldn't you do the same for Mel Gibson? Forgive? Certainly. But the only way you can make your displeasure known in Gibson's case is to not put any money in his pocket.

But then again, I feel silly even commenting, since I know | | this much about what it means to be a Jew, and all of my Jewish friends are people I've never met in person. I've nothing at all to compare it with.

In short, he's an ass, and won't receive any more of my money.

Great icon!

I thought that the movie was problematic because of the way that when it did change the gospels or go to some outside source, it was always to show the Jews in a bad light- that really did seem to be a goal there.

But, wow, I will miss being able to watch The Road Warrior.

Gross. And I really don't think alcoholism makes you say things you don't believe, just things you usually know better than to say in public. I've been boycotting his movie(s) since that 'the Jews are coming to kill me' statement right before the release of the Jesus Chainsaw Massacre, which I think is a reasonable response. If the guy hates me so much, I see no reason to contrbute to his personal fortune.

Hehe I forgot that people called it the Jesus Chainsaw Massacre.

the Jesus Chainsaw Massacre

I will now and forever refer to the movie as this. Thanks for the giggle.
