The Salvation Army refused to take any of the furniture from my old apartment that I tried to donate. It is all stuff that I was using happily until I moved in with Stefanie, and am only getting rid of due to space considerations. I feel vaguely insulted.

My boyfriend had a very similar experience recently. He was going to donate his couch and chair to an organization that takes care of poor veterans. They asked him to describe the couch's colors, and when he did they said no thank you. He was like, WTF?!

have you tried Freecycle?

'The Freecycle Network™ is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people).'

hope that helps...

Thanks! I assume I was not saved enough for the Salvation Army, or else they thought that my stuff might drive people right back into the arms of the Demon Rum or something.

I hate the Salvation Army, they're a bunch of fascists. Call Goodwill instead.

Totally with ya, except that they were the only ones who would (in theory) pick up furniture.
Release the Kraken!

Did they bother to explain themselves?
theservant at 2007-03-01 18:25 (UTC) (Link)
Only by saying that it wasn't in good enough condition. Which was weird. They didn't even check out everything.
