It’s not what you think- the Chabadniks are going to court, and it looks like they are not going to be able to pussyfoot around this whole Messiah thing for all that much longer.
I am in an anti-Chabad mood since going to a panel of rabbis from Lexington last night on the question of ‘Who Wrote the Torah,’ and having the Chabad rabbi spend 45 minutes doing his mysticism-lite schtick (with several serious historical inaccuracies) without answering the question. During the questioning, someone pointed this out, and he said ‘I hoped no one would notice that I avoided the question!’ with a grin on his face, which just annoyed me because he really had spoken for a long time without saying much of anything. He proceeded to say that Moshe got the Torah from G-d, and no one thought any different, the only discussion was whether he got it all at once or over time; this was despite having listened to the Reform and Conservative rabbis explain why they thought what they thought (even though none of them got historical criticism exactly right). Anyway, viva misnagedim!
