We had our aufruf yesterday, and today we went to the Mikveh today. Stefanie and I are really, actually, and for true getting married a week from today! Wow and yay!

I was surprised by how much I liked the Mikveh. I had never been before. The place was clean but not sterile or forbidding, and the people couldn’t have been nicer. They made it clear that how much adherence to halakha I wanted to do was my own business (and I figured that while I was there I might as well go for the full-on halakhic package), but at the same time didn’t make me feel weird at all for saying that I wanted to do the whole traditional ritual, but not any of their meditationey new-agey renewaley stuff. It was really a good experience. I feel somewhat strange saying this, just because it does sound sort of ‘spiritual,’ but it was genuinely moving and transformative. I am still kind of absorbing it, but suffice for now to say that I felt it. I feel like I am ready to be the best that I can for Stefanie, like I am ready to cleave completely to her and to our new family. Baruch HaShem!

You know I'm pretty right wing Orthodox, so I'm sure you understand where this question is coming from, but I'm curious what you mean by the 'full-on halakhic package.' Just wondering what that entails...

Just that everything is done according to halakha, proper brachas, making sure the immersion is kosher, etc.

How awesome :) This entry, it gives me hope for myself. What a wonderful experience for the both of you.. and what good things must be in the future, too!

There should be hope. I didn't have any hope, and it is all turning out good.

Ok, so I understood about one-quarter of what you said up there (not my fault - blame 14 years of Catholic school!) but congratulations to you both. Totally wow AND yay!
