Current Music: Hollywood Sinners - Todo El Mundi Haciendo El Dawn
We saw Star Trek last night- I enjoyed it very much. It was... enjoyable! It hit all the right notes to warm my geeky little heart; a tribute to the characters and the original (and best) series, without being a slavish remake. But enough of an explanation so that it wasn’t completely (dare I say it?) illogical. Some of the minor parts were very nicely fleshed out, and I already know and care more about Chekov and Uhura than I ever did. Between Nimoy and Quinto, Spock gets explored more than he ever has in the films. Well done, I say!
My wife, who is much less of a geek than me, liked it too. Just sayin’.

It did increase my anger towards Anthony Lane, the movie critic at the New Yorker, who gave this a bad review, based mostly on his utter contempt for the genre, the franchise, and for anyone who might actually enjoy it. He lost me a while ago when he complained (seriously) that Monsters vs. Aliens didn’t measure up to Citizen Kane in its use of innovative cinematography. What a dickhead.

I too am the wife of a Star Trek fan, dragged to see the film by her falling-over-from-excitement husband, and I, too, enjoyed it. :) I really liked what it did with Spock's character. I was grateful that Eitan made me see most of the old movies, because if I hadn't, I would have enjoyed it less.

I learned English watching Star Trek, so the show is very near and dear to my heart. And I had a moment of panic when I realized a real director was making this movie because what makes Star Trek what it is is the corniness and the silly humor and the somewhat over the top characters and the wonderful (but not fashionable) optimism. That JJ Abrams managed to pull of a completely respectable movie and keep it true to the original is beyond awesome. Am awaiting sequels with bated breath!
