Tales of the Man in Black

A late night entry written while sitting up with Dad in the ER. Nothing really serious, just a bout of clumsiness (mostly on my part) that resulted in his eatin' tube getting pulled out. They are just holding him here so he can get checked out and if necessary re-tubed in the morning.

But enough of that. Here is a story you should know.

According to Nicholas Dawidoff's The Country of Country, in 1983 Johnny Cash underwent one of his bouts of relapse into addiction, this time to Demerol and amphetamines which he began taking to relieve the pain of three broken ribs. And how did he get this injury? For some unknown reason, he apparently took a swing at his pet ostrich with a two-by-four, and said ostrich retaliated by kicking Cash in the chest.
The moral of the story? I don't know. But I do know that if one is ever to become addicted to drugs, it would be best if it involves an ostrich.

I just stumbled upon your journal and thought I'd say a similar thing happened to Kurt Cobain.

He was touring in Japan after cleaning up for, what he thought was, the last time. He started getting sick, some messed up stomache virus. A doctor gave him something for the pain and without thinking he took it. A month later he noticed a slight edginess and looked at the medication's key ingredients - Demerol. He was hooked again, and he died before he could recover.

Dang those Japanese doctors and their opiate-pushing ways! I know that Ativan is sometimes used against nausea, and that can cause problems. Still, there is something much more stylish about involving an ostrich. Sigh. I miss both Johnny and Kurt, in a musical way. They should have done a duet. I wonder how long it would have taken him to kick Courtney to the curb?

I really do not like that woman. She is a horrible musician and an even worse mother.

I would add that she seems like a pretty piss-poor human being.
