I have procured for myself some of this, just like they had in the old country.

If you happen to be in search of something a little more... downscale, or perhaps as downscale as you can get, take a look at this site, Bum Wines. I have to admit that back in my college days I sampled a couple of these, namely, MD 20/20, and Thunderbird. MD, as I remember, tasted pretty much like cough syrup; thick and sweet, while Thunderbird had a more listerine-like bouquet. Since my experimentation with both was limited, and by their very nature they don't really lend themselves to being remembered, I wouldn't swear to either of those statements.

Hehe, I wish there were a Bum Beer site--I had some of that when I was in college.

The Beast! That was what we used to get. Or for the more adventurous we would go over to East St. Louis and score some Midnight Dragon Malt Liquor, or Olde English 800. Those got the job done, and after you had like 1 or 2 good beers like Bass, you couldn't really taste anymore, so what was the difference. Ah the college years.

Two words: Schlitz Ice

Good call on the 1-2 good beers to dull the taste buds. I've used that trick a time or two myself.

can't say as I ever had the schlitz. In STL, it was all about the Anheuser-Busch products.
